hi ian
what a wonderful restoration I bet they never looked that good when new
its a shame so many old hand push mowers are not valued by collectors and end up as scrap good1 smile

Feebird, I think one of the reasons collectors don't think much of them is because many collectors are now of the retired age and can remember having to push them around as kids and many of those were not fond memories laugh

Hello all

I'm glad Ian has preserved this one.
The Henley and then the New Henley sold well here,
but are almost forgotten.

The Henley company I find fascinating.
Henley's main claim to fame were good ... roller skates.
They also made bicycles...

I hope I can tell their story in 2017.
It's fantastic to see a restored one.

I agree with freebird - about the lack of collectors interested in
side-wheels - and old mowers in general.

The colour scheme is not so un-original.
The Americans were marketing showmen, and any marketing device
that made a side-wheel stand out on the hardware floor became common.
Bright colours were common - sometimes with pin striping.

That's an interesting point you make Norm.
There must be truth in that. The vast majority of Australians
only acquired their first power mower in the 1950s and '60s.

Brilliant!

hi norm
yes that my be the reason no fond memories of using them for us old farts
but take a close look at the engineering wheels castings ect gone in to make it
what would that cost if it were made today, a precision made machine
nothing like the rubbish push ones made of tin today.
people buy rusty old push mowers for garden art decorations
better than going to scrap good1 smile

"The colour scheme is not so un-original."
Hi Jack
There was some original colour the wheels were red the frame was green maybe not quit that shade the rest have no idea of colour
I don't worry to much about colour it is 'only paint' if some where down the track someone gets this mower and don't like the colour, hay it is 'only paint' re do it

Really interesting and inspiring post. I have a few Qualcast mowers , a Rex mower and a Qualcast with 7 blades as opposed to the usual 5 blades. I'm always on the lookout for these mowers but they seem to be few and far between, maybe they got sold off for scrap when metal price was high! I have a couple with handles and I am after a suitable handle bracket. Any ideas?
