Ok this one is hurting my head, I think it is a 375 Briggs, but I can't get any spark on it. Tried 3 coils, no spark and the last coil I fitted I just pulled off a motor that had spark. I have the kill switch wire disconnected. In desperation I fitted another magneto flywheel, still nothing and tried several known spark plugs. Any thoughts?

NormK, The problem could be one of the following: 1. Earth wire from the coil to the kill switch might be earthing out on the engine cover. 2. You might not have a good earth on the coil (clean with emery paper where it bolts on). Try looking at these things and let us know what you find.

Slash I have tried 3 different coils and the last one I tried, I took it off another motor that I checked it and the spark was good. Several plugs that I know work and I have the kill switch disconnected from the coil. Over the years I have done hundreds of these but I haven't struck this problem. I will have one more crack at it tomorrow and if I do no good I will put it aside and move onto something else

Ok I now have spark but what really annoys me is I don't know what the problem was, that is very frustrating, as Bruce suggested it must have been an earthing problem, only thing I can think of. Thanks again for the suggestions

You weren't installing them upside down were you? I know this can be done on some coils.

No I wasn't installing them upside down AVB, they have the earth kill switch spade fitting and it would stand out like the proverbial if it was on the top

Just a thought NormK as I have seen it done.
But you give the definition of "proverbial" as I am not familiar with that word. I think it is something like as saying "If it was a snake it would have bit me".

AVB, you got the message probably Aussie slang, I would think that most here would know exactly what something standing out like the proverbial means

AVB, it's aussie slang for standing out like that which is clearly visible when looking at the rear view of an uncastrated male dog.

Ah got it. We use a terms like this. Actually there a lot terms use like this then. Here's one. Standing out like a sore thumb. And the previous comment also works sometimes too. It most means it should have been obvious just was overlooking the problem. It sorta like looking for a pen that is laying right in front you.
