Hello ODK History Lovers

This tiny brochure sums up the Victa Range for 1961-62.
There were four models: The Victa Sheerline, The Four Star, The Utility
and the Standard.

The brochure measures 5 x 6 and is presented in green and white. No full-
colour brochures yet. Of note is the new Sheerline cowling, quite angular and
less appealing than the original, streamlined Sheerline cowl of 1960. This may
have been done to accommodate the new Impulse starter.

The original Sheerline cowling has now gone to a revised Victa Standard.
I guess this would be the penultimate year for the Standard, and the original
toe-cutter base would be restricted from then on to the Victa Utility
(introduced in this year). The Victa Four Star was Victas contribution to the
rapidly emerging 4-stroke lawnmower market.

Here is the newsprint advertisement from August, 1961 that helped me date this brochure.

Note the pricing structure:-
Four Star 63 guineas
Sheerline 60 guineas
Standard 54 guineas
Utility 49 guineas
Catcher 6 guineas

PART TWO - Detail

The interesting thing for me is the new terminology.
Victa's flagship would be the 'Sheerline', a word derived from naval
and maritime terminology. This thematic approach would usher in other
names of that ilk - Cadet, Envoy, Corvette, Commander ...

Note that the Standard is priced above the new-named 'Utility'.
This is a great signifier of the changing role for the 'toe-cutter' base.
The Standard could no longer be considered the 'standard' mower base.

The replacement name would be the 'utility' - a non-standard and specialised
name. Within a couple of years, the Standard would be dropped, and replace
with the entry-level, specialised, Victa Utility.
