I just found these seats on ebay, good value. I might get a few because every ride on has a damaged/worn out seat. I wonder if these are old Greenfield left over stock. I believe that after April Greenfield will no longer supply parts for their mowers over 20 years old

G'day Norm

That's great info. for members Norm. Thank you.
These are the 'classic' ride-on seat, and at a good price.

I really hate seeing ridiculous seat replacements on ride-ons,
like office chairs, armchairs, etc. Really bad taste ...

Sunny and chair.

Jack I shudder every time I see a ride on with some botched up seat, immediately makes you think what else has been botched up, they just look like "I don't care". I don't understand why people just trash their ride on mowers, look after any piece of machinery and it will look after you

Hi Norm
I couldn't agree more. Wise words there.
The Aussie laid-back lifestyle should not mean recliner-rockers on ride-ons!

All very comfy and casual.

This is how people get caught up with ebay. These seats had a buy it now price of $30, with a start bid of $19.50. Once somebody clicks on the bid price, the buy it now option is removed and now the bidding is over $50

I don't know, my seat is getting pretty stuffed and with my bad back a set of Cortina high back buckets with headrests hanging in the shed are looking pretty fine. :-)

The seller claims to have 100 of these seats so selling one at a time on ebay, locking it in for 10 days at a time is going to take him a long time to get rid of them so sit tight and hopefully when he relists them he will come back with a buy it now of $30 again. laugh

I could use a few of those but even at $30 by the time I had them sent down south they wouldn't be cheap.

Hi Norm, Slash, and Aussietrev

These seats were used so extensively on ride-ons, I am surprised
that they are not still manufactured ... somewhere.

Don't even think about it... Cortina buckets ... let's just play
the theme from the Benny Hill Show then, shall we? grin

So very wrong.

I'm fine with the Benny Hill music, as long as there is the mandatory long line of scantily clad girls for me to chase on the ride on. devilchilli

I'm wondering when these seats were manufactured and how supple the vinyl will be if it was a while ago.

My impression is that they could be 15/20 years old, vinyl might be ok providing they were kept away from the sunlight, that sure kills it

I ducked out at lunch time and visited a local mower retailer. He quoted over $200 for a genuine Greenfield seat. He also suggested getting the existing one recovered and that the original materials used were not that great. I know an upholster that does good work so I'll see what he says for a price. Materials are likely to be better these days.

The seller replied to me yesterday saying that if I bought 6 he would supply them for $50 each delivered. Bit higher than the original $29.50 buy it now price

Particularly if you can't see them first. $300 is a lot of coin if they have gone brittle.

G'day Norm

I wish Ikea or Aldi made or sold ride-on seats.
At least then we would see value for money.

Cheers

The upholsterer quoted $250. I said "Thanks, but no thanks." and pointed out what the new price was.

It is a bit hard to go past these tractor seats just not sure how they would look on a ride on. $71 with free postage

Hi Norm

If the back was lowered to its lowest it might look fine.
It shows what can be made and sold for the price.

Thanks for trying to help out members here. Appreciated.

Jack as you can see there is a lot more involved in the manufacture of these seats compared to the standard ride on ones. I'm sure with a little tinkering the back could be lowered right down and then they would look ok I think. I might get one and try it. I just hate those armchairs plonked on a mower

I contacted this seller and asked what the postage by road would be ,his reply was $33.00 +$10.00 handing /so actually 43.00 to post from Brisbane to Townsville What a rip off, the price of the seat was 75.00 ,so he was told to get on his bike.
he had them listed on gumtree, then he had another listing on ebay with postage at 17.00 odds (not the tractor style seat )
I bought a seat for the colt else where

I think you need to be a little careful with those tractor seats, or anything that is a big higher. It will change the center of gravity. The Greenfields are one of the better ones for a low center of gravity. For my property it is just low enough with one part of a slope. If you have a flat block, then go for it, but I have to pass on it. It would probably look really out of place on my old TE20, too!

Plenty of new aftermarket TE20 out there fairly reasonable price as well. I see the seller of the seats we have been discussing has them listed on ebay at the moment at $25 postage and no mention of a handling charge

I bought one of these BareCo seat to put on my Murray restoration project.
Looks alright to me, maybe some of the purists won't like them.

G'day GeoffP

Thant link might be quite useful to members.
Those seats look like OEM seats and certainly 'look the part'.
And they've got a proper drain hole for water!

Thanks for the information.
