It's an interesting reflection on society I think - in the 60's and 70's if you cracked the base of the mower you welded it up like in the photo there. Nowadays if you crack the base you leave it on the nature strip and buy a new one. A throw away society - really sad I think.

Your right there! Unfortunately it's just pure economics. Everything is so much cheaper in real terms ( as a percentage of the weekly income). I once read that 70 percent of the stuff we buy has either been consumed or used and disposed of within 3 months! And people wonder why I am such a keen believer in developing financial systems based on sustainability
Sorry, I've slid off topic here.

Yes I can help with that engine number. It appears that engine is a Corvette 2 model number 71VB from 1971.The base however is a store brand as can be seen by the Waltons sticker. So I'd say that someone at some point has had problems with the original base and swapped the engine over.Similar base but not quite the same. Also can you share your secret on how it ended up in your boot as I just can't find anything. It would be great if they just put themselves in there. Hang on I'll go and check and see if one is in there now.
Here for a good time, not a long time.

I think she put it in there on the sly. just found 3 in the back of mine, makes 42. not happy with the prognosis on the mower though. was hoping it was from 1970 and see if it was made in the same month i was born. the starter seems to have no pawls?? it throws nothing out when actuated(wow). I have read enough here to know not to pull it appart, just wait for a working one to come my way. dont want to soil myself or the boy. WHY IS IT SO will make this quick. mowed three lawns together today that i usually use a 4 stroke for the back half and a powertorque for the front what is on a steep grade. mowed the lot with a victa 550 21 inch fullcrank and it used nearly 3 times the fuel.

Can i yolk up a powertorque to the flymo to power my house?? Last but not least. Yes I still have the Amplion HT6. And yes I did all that with one breath. My head still hurts. Kids laughed. Sean

So.. This topic is about downsizing then ... I have to agree with Blumby that the matching of a Waltons mower with the Corvette name is a bitsa - the engine has been changed and I totally endorse Master Technician Blumby's assessment. Walton's name for this Corvette base was Celestial:- Hope this helps.------------------------- JACK

Hi SeanBirthday: March 1970. The most significant mower to commemorate that year can only be:- ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/09/full-7392-24321-victa_story_1.jpg) I rate the VC160 one of the most important Australian lawnmowers. It didn't really do anything new; it just did it very well. Most importantly, the most brilliant advertising campaign followed that many old-oily-rag collectors remember - and will never forget. This was Victa at their peak. They produced this mower in your honour -------------------------- JACK

Sean I'm only de man: Blumby is 'DA MAN' for everything VC! The 1970 VC will be 160cc and it will be before the de-compressor engines. They will have a wind-up (trip release) starter. So, don't go for the later VCs. The decompressor is a device similar in operation to a paint can being punctured by, say, a screwdriver. Avoid these. It will need to have the big '70' on the crankcase numbers. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2015/09/full-7392-24322-page_02.jpg)

That sounds about right jack, I think my parents had too much of a good time in the 60s. So I am a sunbeam child Going to work on the flymo generator now. I recon it will work. Sean.
