just looking through some gasket sets i have here and found 3 complete gasket sets , engine only im sure cant see any carby bowl or orings in them , still sealed and look good just old packaging .
says they are to suit HK25 + HK 30 ... PM me if interested i dont think i will need them anytime soon

I guess you are restoring a Kirby to keep the machine original.
Parts are scarce, but not impossible to find.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but those gaskets are no longer available as "vccomm" did a big pre-Christmas clean out soon after this thread was created.

So I guess the hunt continues ?

Yes the plan is to restore my current 14" SB Kirby to original, it is running and cutting really well but may not be feasible to restore as the shaft out of the engine is damaged, so it's a toss up, to restore or see what else is out there, I'm thinking a decent 17" SB would be nice to have too.......decisions to be made.

How can someone let a piece of machinery go so bad ??

If I'm correct that is a H25 engine on what would be quite a rare Scotty as it's got both a brass and ally plate riveted to the chassis rail. There weren't many of that combination made.

Honestly I would just find another Kirby engine and fit it, unless you specifically want the original one to fly again.

yeah is a bit bad, the story goes......

It was given to me in pretty bad shape, ran like dog, smoky, spluttering, although the cylinder and knife are A1 perfect alignment, no dings, and not bent, it cuts pieces of paper perfect end to end.

But the shaft kept slipping and I think the previous owner kept tightening the screws down on the shaft and I followed suit, until you can see the result above.

I managed to drill and tap a thread in the stump that is left and bolted it all back together and cleaned the carby and spark plug, unbelievably somehow it runs like a dream, full power, no smoke or splutter, no vibrations or wobble, it is my everyday mower, must have got lucky there.

What I find impossible to believe is that the clutch body can even run true as there is not enough original size shaft for the housing to sit stable on.

I feel that in the long term that problems will evolve again and it's only that it is a 14 inch machine that no vibration is being felt as the shaft length across the span is short opposed to a 17 or 20 inch.

Honestly I would find another power plant and do a transplant sooner than later as it will no doubt give you more grief.

There are plenty of discarded Kirby's around where you could use your current engine as a donor for all the bolt on stuff and also you'll get a proper recoil starter for ease of operation.

You could easily get an adaptor made up to slip over the existing shaft section, heat shrink it on and fit 3 grub screws, never move then

I agree problems would be evolving, the plan is to get another SB to use while I restore this one.

On the issue of the shaft stub, to clear up how my dodgy fix works..... I drilled inline with the shaft, horizontally straight down the middle in the end to a depth of about 20mm in and drilled + tapped a thread and used a long bolt to put it all back together.

I'm thinking maybe a restoration for reliability/functionality rather than originality would be more suited for this machine.

Still deciding though..........

Sorry but can't support your idea whatsoever. We here at the ODK can not endorse anything outside the manufacturers standard operating procedures.

Thus the only thing from this end would be a new crank correctly installed or a complete engine changeover.
