best 2 stroke oil that I know of is the penrite stuff,a tad expensive at $9 a litre but worth every cent,I'm 99% sure that it is mineral based but personally thats all I have ever used, always run in on a mineral oil, same with a car.In my Honda HR-196 mower I have always run gtx2 motor oil since new (600ml) and change it every 2-4 weeks depending on the amount of work done, goes in gold, comes out gold and I'm a contractor,im convinced that the bricks n crappin' oil sold for 4 stroke mowers is designed to blow your motor apart and offers no protection and S.F.ALL cleansing additives so clogs ur motor up etc

It appears that the Honda's for the most part recommend mutigrade oils so that would be in spec.

I use Stihl 50-1 2 stroke oil, but i use it at 40-1 mix for all my chainsaws ,lawnmowers & brushcutters, no problems yet.

re syn or mineral it is best to run your new two stroke engine in on low ash mineral 2 stroke oil,oil that is readily available like castrol active 2t oil,it is low smoke and a well proven product, mix oil with unleaded petrol to eng manufactures specs
run in engine for 15 to 20 ltrs, this will ensure a good bedding in of the rings to the bore, a little bit of carbon on top of the piston also helps in a good piston to bore seal, when this done change over to posibly a syn oil low smoke oil, some thing that is readily available like sthil two stroke oil, this oil is also made by castrol, it is the same for four stroke engines run them in on the manufacturers instructions ie briggs & stratton sae 30 eng oil, if you run your four stroke mower in on car eng oil you will find it will become smokey from the exhaust on start up and will develope an oil consumption problem throughout its life rgds graham
