Hi Guys
I was wondering if any one has a photo or two of the throttle linkage for a 2.5hp Briggs and Stratton?
I have just bought a Scott Bonnar 45 that has linkages missing and haven't been able to find any references on the net.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Can you post the Model, Type and Code for your engine please? There have been SB45s with several different Briggs engines, carburetors and choke mechanisms along the way.

Meanwhile your engine looks as if it may be a Model 60102. The throttle linkage may therefore be the same as this one:

Yours is a Vacu-Jet, with the choke pull-knob horizontal, while his is a Pulsa-Jet, with the choke pull-knob vertical. Otherwise the external controls and adjustments are much the same, though they are different internally.

So, it looks as if it is correct now except that the Governor Spring is missing. You can get the correct part number from the other thread.

Hi
Sorry, I didn't give you enough info. The only numbers I can find are on the cowl around the engine. they are 80102 0233-01 76072103. Its a 2.5hp
Thanks

Yep, the governor is missing and it current part number is 692205.

To find the correct IPL you need to use 080102-0233-99

With that engine being from 1976 you can download a copy of the CE8069 Brigg's Repairman's Handbook 1919 -1981

Linkage setup is on PDF page 146.

The difference between the 80102 and the 60102 is that the 80102 is 8 cubic inches displacement (130 cc) where the 60102 is 6 cubic inches (100 cc). From memory the 60102 was usually 2 hp, but sometimes 2.25, and the 60202 (same engine with a different carburetor) was 2.25, but sometimes 2.5 hp. The external details (such as carburetor linkage and governor) are broadly similar for all four engines, but some of the parts are different in detail. In this case the governor spring is different, as AVB has pointed out.

Here is the illustration from the manual, of your carburetor linkage:

Here is your Operator's Manual:

Your engine was built on 21 July 1976 in Briggs Plant No. 3, in Rolla, Missouri.

GRB, note you are also missing the anchor fitting that has to attach the inner wire of the speed control cable, to the speed control lever on the governor: see green circle in picture:

[Linked Image]

Sometimes a cable with a single-wire inner is used, with a Z-bend in the end to engage the hole in the lever, or sometimes a more complicated gadget with a grub-screw, and a pin going through the hole in the lever. You can get something suitable from your local mower shop.

Hi grumpy,

Sorry to bring up an old thread but do you have a picture of how the governer linkage should be set up, including springs?

Cheers
Brad
