Hi Guys, First time post.

I have finally got my Grandfathers old model 40 running after making new head and carby gaskets, replaced bearings etc as it has been in storage since 1975.

My question is, did they come out with cork lining in the clutch drum? This one hasn't got it and no evidence that there ever was.

Also I was wondering what the approximate value is for one of these old girls.

Hi GRB, and as warm welcome to the forum. It's great to have another Scott Bonnar owner aboard, as we all like to learn new things and tinker here.

I presume you are speaking of the 'land roll' clutch which is the self propelled component of the machine, as the cutter clutch has a rubber wheel fixture that runs inside a drum...
Unfortunately, we have no parts list or manual for the Model 40, and, never having disassembled a 'land roll' clutch, can't advise you as to whether it had a cork-lined clutch plate or not.
Hopefully, one of our members will chime in here and give you the answer.

I was talking about the clutch that has the rubber wheel on the end of the crank shaft and runs inside the drum that is situated on top of the frame.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi GRB,

You are referring to the main cutter clutch. Sadly there are absolutely no parts available for the Model 40 at all. All you can do is try to make something up yourself or find another model 40 that's in a state of disrepair and only good for salvaging parts from.
