Put MT tyres on the back, there hasnt been any track yet that I cant plough through. Shame the engine and gearbox has let it down, I have a new ute on standby but this one keeps chugging along and passing its RWC each year.

Wow Jonsey, that is one hell of a ute!

And Joe, Yep, lot's of stuff, hopefully "ll be able to say the same when I get my hands on the ute I have recently been given, A 1983 Datsun 720 4X4 Dual Cab, free in exchange for work, and getting it running. It's in great nick, and the engine runs, just needs a fluid leak fixed in the clutch, a new driver window, and a new ignition, only 142,000k on the clock too!

They are a good rig, mine is 2wd, but the nikki/hitatchi carbs are shocking, I have had to continuously stuff around with mine, even the slightest contaminant causes it to carry on.

The engine in mine is a smaller motor than the 4x4 ones, unfortunately the oil ring is a cast iron type in these, and wears out a lot quicker than the compression rings, my compression is still around the 150-160 psi mark, however I can chug through a litre of oil in the matter of a couple of hours. Im not interested In rebuilding it, I got a lot of service out of it.

My gearbox is stuffed so to speak, a whining noise started over a year backUp until recently I ignored it until I got stuck in reverse, however theres just a nack of getting it in gear now smile

That being said II have a VG HSV maloo that I am itching to have a good reason to register and drive an awesome find I had one day out in hillston once.

That's a beautiful load!

She should do indeed, the interior is mint (one owner, seats, floors and dash always covered) still has the pushbutton AM radio. The engine runs well, and from what i can asess with the clutch dead, the transmission seems good. Body is good, no rust issues.

It was driven until 1995, garaged till 2007, and simply moved, working, to the back of the yard then. Age has perished seals in the clutch master cylinder, however thankfully the brakes seem fine, and last year somone broke in, smashing the drivers window, and buggering the ignition, aside from that, it's fine, just wants the above repairs, a decent full service, a tune up, and it should be ready for rego!

Cheers

Wow roebuck the auto drive must have either been ran for a long time or runs very hot.To burn a hole like that in the cowl.
Don't have a ute, would like one.Just wished I taken some photos of what I can fit on my trailers.
I think it was a little over 26 mowers on the box trailer.
Ty did you take any pictures we can show?
