Hi Guys,
I picked up 2 identical echo blowers for $10 thinking that I could at least make one of them go.

I havent done any work on blowers before so I am after a few pointers before I start.

So far after fixing both recoil starters I can confirm they both go but simply die when you press the throtte (suspect lack of fuel).

Both engines have good compression and spark.[Linked Image]

Peter,

The procedure to follow is the following:

1. Remove the exhaust (check screen and port are not blocked with carbon) and check cylinder for scoring and ring gap for ware, if ok go to next step.
2. Remove and replace the fuel filter in tank also check fuel line for leaks or pin holes.
3. Run machine and check tuning to see if you have the same issue if you do go to next step.
4. Remove and replace carburetor diaphragms and fuel filter in carburetor and reset mixture jets.
5. Run and reset mixture jet and your done.

If you use this procedure with all two strokes you will save a lot of time and trouble for youself as well as money. cheers2

Ok so I have the machine running a little better but it is still not quite right.
The cylinder and rings were pretty spot on ie no scoring.
I cleaned the exhaust and fuel lines/ filter and it does run better but it still bogs down occassionly and when left at idle it will stall after about 30 seconds.
Before replacing the diaphragms could I get some help with the mixture screws?
If you think that wont solve the problem I'm happy to get the diaphragm kit but want to know the correct model. From what I can see it is a zama carb.
Any tips associated with these carb would be appreciated.
I am pretty sure this is worth fixing unless others have an alternative view. Echo seem to build a decent product

Thanks guys

Pj

Peter,

Before you look at replacing the diaphragms I did say in step 2 to replace the fuel filter not clean it. Please follow the directions given so we don't waste time and money.

Once you have done the procedures I will go further on the mixture settings for the carb.

Please also note that you give a good detailed description of what you have done and this will help others in the future. cheers2

Ok sorry about that. My local mower shop has a tendancy to rip people off blind so Im after your help regarding whether or not I do a seperate order for the diaphrams and fuel filter to save on postage costs.

I just did an order with your shop and forgot to include the fuel filter

I trust from what you are saying that the fuel filter is often a culprit of these symptoms.

Let me know what you think.
Peter

Well Blower number one is now running just about perfect. Starts easily good idle and full speed without bogging down.

Bruce thanks for your advice on the fuel filter. That was the problem. I also used a bit of carb cleaner and now she's running perfectly.

I am fairly sure I have the mixture screws adjusted right, however Id appreciate an explanation if the more wiser members wish to share.

For $20 all up its a bloody good blower.

Fuel mix is 25/1 right?

Phot of the finished product all clean.

Thanks

Peter,

As always the moderators and myself try to explain things in detail in order for members to save money but as stated before you must follow the procedures to the letter. As you found out after our phone call you saved your self the expense of a diaphragm kit (about $25-30).

Also to new members a detailed explanation of what has been done can save everyone a lot of time and money.

I will now close this thread as the problem has been solved. cheers2
