Hi All Hey I have a 590 with the normal fault of no drive, mines missing the plastic gear altogether. I have had a good look on the forum, and it has being very helpfull. I have tried to get in contact with the company that was making the replacement , but they have disappeared. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers Jason

Hi Jason95, and a warm welcome to the forum. grin It's always great to have another Scott Bonnar owner on board. Parts for the SB Diplomat Model 590 are very thin on the ground, however I will send you a private message (PM) I may be able to help you source the metal ring gear and pinion you require. Just have a look for the flashing envelope next to 'My Stuff' in the top toolbar and have a look in 'My Messages'

Hi Tiger99 I have sent you a PM with his details. They are about $130 + Del.
I had a look at my $23 dollar special, and its another 590, i pulled the drive out and its got an alloy gear. So I'm pretty pleased with that. So i put in my other 590 and it drives a treat. Also got the non running Briggs started as well.

If I recall correctly, the aluminium gear is no longer available, but it had proper teeth with the involute tooth form. The steel gear is a stack of soft steel pressings which, apparently to save tooling cost, have simple triangular teeth. The triangular teeth will damage the drive gear. Hence your aluminium gear should be treasured.

Hi to Jason and grumpy, grumpy, you are correct; the alloy gear is probably superior but no longer manufactured, but thanks to the steel gear, many Diplomats are still in service....and some have been for a considerable time period. But the supply of the steel gear is not infinite....There will come a time when it's not available, as are many parts for the Diplomat series of machines. This will mean the end of the line for many machines as viable restorations.
