when it comes to setting trimmer high speed needles
i have tryed richen it to where the revs start to drop then lean it to where the again start to drop the set the needle half way between the two it seem to work ok but is it safe?

For years I have always set the High needle at the maximum RPM with the adjustment. A 2cycle engine has what most people refer to as the "power band" and this is the point at which the fuel/air ratio delivers the maximum power. The only ill effects at running this speed that I know of, is that your fuel oil ratio must be right or you can sieze the engine due to lack of lubrication.

thanks
but is that the way to do it halfway between dead rich and dead lean or do you lean it to where the revs drop and then back off one quarter turn?
