Hi Jeffrey, what a great addition to your collection, these are a rare beast these days. You certainly have a good friend in Ty (Mr Davis). I don't have a lot of info on the 'Spin-Cut' except for this Scott Bonnar advert from 1957.... ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-1147-7826-scan0077_medium.jpg) We need a colour photo so as to confirm the original SB colour scheme, for the Model 22. I hope Grant (willing worker) may chime in with some more info!

Jeffrey, just a thought, if you can give us some info on the engine....make, model number/serial number etc, we could do some research and find out what carby/air cleaner were used. The throttle control would be the same as most petrol Scotties of the time-frame 1950-1960, and so relatively easy to source. I have a feeling that engine may be a JAP. Am I correct? Hoping we can shed some light on it... PS. When are you coming to pick up your 'Magister'?

Hi Jeffrey, here is an interesting forum with reference to: JAP engine, how to identify it? Click HERE You will see a post there that references the magneto model number to the model of the engine. Once you correctly identify the model, you can download a manual free here.... HERE Hoping this helps.

I wonder what the actual original colour was, the person that restored it last seems to have a habit of making up his own schemes. Did you have a missing blade plate too?

Thanks Daryl I have had a look at the magneto there is only a manufactures name on it no number to match it with any model.Tried do download those manuals all to no avail. HI Joe there was a posting from willingworker on the 17/1/12 and he had put up pictures from a spin cut that he had borrowed from someone. The whole mower was a orange colour basically the same colour as the engine is.That so far is the only reference to the right colour I have seen so far.It also had the spin cut decal on it,which is what he was trying to copy. The only thing with that one was it had a slightly different base to my one.No I haven't found a cutting disc which I think is going to be very difficult it has 3 blades and won't be easy to find. Here are the pictures that willingworker posted up. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7848-full_2159_4791__igp8050.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7849-full_2159_4792__igp8053.jpg) You can see here that the grass chute is bolted one where as on mine it is cast into the base. Also I would think that these are more likely to be the original wheels.Unlike mine which has turner wheels. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/uploads/usergals/2012/09/full-5048-7850-full_2159_5073__igp8071.jpg) As you can see here how the cutting disc looks.Nothing that I have seen before.Different from the other Scottys I have.Don't know how hard that will be to find, but lets start the search.Once I have worked out everything I need I will put it in the wanted section. Also that must be a different base as the chute isn't bolted on,it looks more like my base.

going on the part numbers of the cylinder and exhaust the JAP engine is either a 'M'type one, or a 'CM'type two. Both engines have a bore of 46mm and stroke of 48mm, a cc of 79.7.they both have a Bletchley-type AB-1 carby. The M type has a wico- I.1259 magneto, and the CM has a wico- FW.1269 magneto. a photo of the coil set up will tell the difference if you need it. regards, john

Thanks for that I will show you the ignition,it may take a while though as I did try to take the flywheel off today but it wouldn't come off the easy way.It will need a puller to get it off,but I don't have it here and it's still in storage.Once I get it out I will pull it off and show some pictures.

Hi Jeffrey!
Glad to see your enjoying this one.
I have dug up the carby for it, so I will pop that into your pile of goodies for when you make your next trip down in a few weeks, as well as the documentation.
I recall somwhere somone mentioning something about being able to get reproduction stickers for the front, as you can just make out in the pictures you have added of an original condition one, it does not have the large scott bonnar print on the front, it actually has the words "Spin Cut"
Cheers Ty

I'm not to worried about the spin cut as I was going to make a stencil and mask up and paint it on.I wonder if that's not how it was done anyway. What I am worried about is finding a cutting disc as after I do all this work I would really like to be able to cut some grass, then clean the heck out of it.I mean after all the work is done I would really like to know that it can do what it was build to back in (I believe) 1956.

Cheers Ty

Yes I know but if we start the search now we may turn up with something.Did you ever go back to the bin thrower and ask he had the cutting disc for it?

Never gave me a worthwile anwer, but I guess that is to be expected.
I was talking with Joe Brown about the disk, but we couldnt narrow it down, that picture you have added might just help, so I'd suggest sending it to him.
Pop up a fresh post in the wanted, and I will get onto a few contacts in VIC & SA, see if anything new has come up.
It's quite an interesting looking blade disk, again with that old scotty 3 blade set up.
Which remids me, I still have a number of NOS Scotty blades here for you too.
Cheers Ty
