Hello all,
I would appreciate assistance with a rattling mower discharge chute cover.
I inherited a vintage self-propelled, walk-behind, Rover Mower, model 32113, with a side discharge chute cover which always rattles very loudly when mowing without the catcher. (The rattle can be heard over the engine noise.)
The chute cover mounting shaft is fitted with two springs which would appear to be provided to force the cover closed whenever the catcher is removed. The springs, as currently fitted, have no closing effect at all, and only its dead weight swings the cover closed- but it is a loose closure and rattles like hell.
I am wondering if anyone can help with this.
I have attached photos for information - of mower with discharge cover removed, of the inside and outside faces of cover showing fitted springs. (The inside face view has the U-bracket folded back for clarity.)
The cover pivots on a shaft w2hich is retained by a U-bracket bolted to the mower deck. The cover is press-fitted to the shaft. As fitted, the springs and shaft rotate with the cover - there is no spring tensioning action.
