Hey all.
I am currently trying to repair a victa Power torque mower, know them fairly well but this one has me stumped.... sad because i am a mechanic by trade.
ok.
It starts and runs however once warm it becomes hard to start again if you stop it, or it just dies, it will restart but dies again after a few seconds priming or choking makes it run longer which also suggests possibly lower crankcase seal

started with the simple stuff spark plug, top crankcase o-ring, carbie jet, ignition module, earth, coil, decompressor.

pulled piston out rings are worn but not enough to stop it .. ive seen a hell of alot worse had compression however thought it may have broken a ring.
any ideas lads ?
cheers mitch

Hi Mitch, not a Victa guru...but I'm into the simple stuff (which will sometimes be the answer) check the fuel filter in the tank, is it clear?...and then check fuel flow through the tube to the carby...and then maybe check the hole in the fuel cap...these block up resulting in no fuel flow....lastly, how is the bottom O ring, any signs of leakage?

I'm sure one of the gurus will chime in and most probably give you the answer.... wink
Hoping this may help...
cheers2

Hey deejay
thanks for your post fuel flow is good the jet and primer assembly was replaced by the owner.
i also had it apart as the diaphram was pinched causing it to over rev, apart from that its doing its thing and very clean.
bottom seal on a power torque is just a sealed bearing no leakage signs may just replace it wile ive got it apart

to me it souds like a fuel starvation issue, perhaps the tube where the jet screws in. Otherwise, on an unlikely note the ignition coil could be going bad, but they rarely stuff up, is the connection to the spark plug the original screw and boot type, I have seen people use ring crimp connectors for a plug connector and they can cause all sorts of havoc.

hey .
i replaced the coil as the ignition lead was stuffed , yep original boot and screw, fuel issue sounds more like it considering choking helps although it idols and doesnt have that lean smell to it nor does the bore indicate being lean ? would have thought that if it was lean it would constantly rev out before stopping

Just a quick post guys.
replaced the piston rings top crankcase o-ring and intake o-ring
(inner between cylinder and carb mount) wile i had it apart same result runs then stops so im thinking its some fuel restriction ive missed wile the carbie was apart. if it was the lower seal id be expecting very low to no crank case compression but it seems reasonably good.

Does it rev out before it dies? If not it shouldn't be fuel probs, sounds like my tiltacut which I'm assuming is the condenser.

Also my power torque mower used to get hot then die and the pull start was really hard to pull after it died. It was the piston and rings

Dont know if this will help ,I had an issue where hose to decompressor was not sealing.
Therefore no vacuum whem running.
Valve would not close when running.
So no compression.
I cut the ends from hose, heat with a lighter and refit.
It will always start when you prime it though.
This seams to fit your symptoms.
Let me know what you think.

The piston pressure should be enough to close the decompressor, it wont pull enough of a vacuum until after it has fired a few times, the vacuum is to help make sure it stays closed.

If its hard to start when hot and your sure it isnt an ignition fault I would suspect a fuel supply issue and leaning out.

Hi all

That would have been my suggestion, you sure you have not swapped a bad module for a not so good module and is the module earthed properly.

A late model module in coil setup you know is good is a handy thing to have for fault finding.

hey .
yes, ran drill through hole and re-riveted the module down early on no change.
Not a fan of the integrated coil and module as i have a current 2 stroke and its a total bitch to start going to change to seperate.
have you had any issues with any you have seen ?
cheers , mitch
