Hi all that are interested in the VC-160's.Currently I'm restoring 3 VC's.Mark I,II & IIIB.So today I have cleaning and starting to reassemble the Mark II & IIIB's engines. Now due to parts of other mowers manly the VC-Mustang.I have come across the fact the VC-160 has a unique crank all to itself.I found this out while trying to use a VC-Mustang crank (Also a 160cc) into a VC-160 crankcase. When I tried to put the crank in it just didn't fit. Here are some pictures to show what I mean.

The rustier crank is the VC-160,the other is the VC-Mustang crank. The Machine part where the bearing goes on is 30mm from the base of the main part of the crank.Where as the tapered part on the VC-Mustang is 50mm where the tapered part starts. Also the bearings from the VC-Mustang won't fit the VC-160.They are to smaller on the inner diameter and smaller on the outer diameter.

Sorry guys this picture is wrong this is the top part of the cranks.I was suppose to put it at the bottom of all this just to show that the top part of the cranks are the same. It's just the bottom parts that are different.

This one is the VC-Mustang

This one is the VC-160 crank.

Also the crank case's are also different on the inside. The one I was playing around with has now been put back together. So I will look for the other I have and show the different's in those as well. Also the VC-Mustang has a spacer sleeve to separate the two bottom bearings where as the VC-160 just uses the bottom crankcase to keep them apart. Will put up some details tomorrow when I have got some more pictures for you all.

seems different, vc160's were the earliest of the 160's yes? is it possible they used 125 crankcases and cranks or leftover parts from thereof?

Howdy, I've got a few different 125's and 160's here, have a look when you come down. If you want them, you're welcome to them.

There were 160's before the VC-160 Joe, the 160cc Corvette 2 was released in 67 i believe, while the first VC-160 was released in 1970.

The VC-160 was the first Hi-Arch.

Cheers
Ty

Any idea when you're thinking of coming down? Cause I'm planning on being away the weekend of 29-30 Oct.
