Was wondering if anyone had anything to do with walk behind or tow behind topdressers?

Is there a local retailer in Brisbane or even Australia who sells them. I'm not referring to rotary fertilizer spreaders but rather topdressers where sand or prefered material is worked out of an opening via a cylindrical brush or roller?
Cheers, Craig.

Hi Craig, The best advice I could give you would be to contact a turf machinery supplier in your area (Google search) or maybe a groundsman at a local sporting venue. They may be able to help you with your inquiry. wink

Kennards ground care in Syd and Mel have a topdresser for hire. It's a petrol powered walk behind job with a .33 cubic m hopper. It has a conveyer belt that works the material out onto a rotating poly brush. Looks like a very easy machine to use and will get the job done quickly - no wheel barrowing and back breaking spreading. Once the material is down you can drag a mat or a levelling rake around to level it off and fill the holes. I know my local golf club uses this exact machine to do their greens.

Since no one i SE QLD hires a machine of this kind I'm stuck with the old school method of barrow and shovel spread. Once material is down i level off with a large manual pull behind levelling bar which i made with box section steel - about 2.5m wide.

Heres the link to the machine for hire,

Hi All Intrested to read these posts even though they were posted a while back . Have been looking at the images on the google that come up of the lawn manual push topdressers available in UK and US. Would like to hire one of these myself, but scan the hire places here in Sydney OZ and, no luck. These topdressers aren't cheap , nearly the price of a top end lawn mower. What would be the interest if I bought one and tried hiring it out weekends around the Sydney area????? It certainly makes that shovel, throw, spread job of topdressing a whole lot easier. Have often thought of converting a wheelbarrow in some way for the topdressing job, but after seeing these gadgits on Utube why reinvent the wheel. greenkeeperjohn
