This came off a defunct straight shaft Victa 2 stroke trimmer in a scrap bin. The simplicity appealed to me, just cut a length of line and stick it in.

Problem is I can't undo it from the bevel housing. Judging by the wear at the holes where the line comes out it looks like it rotates clockwise when viewed from below as in photo but so far I have bent and broken several hard steel rods trying to undo it as a Left hand threaded item. Next step will be a hacksaw as I don't need the bevel gearbox.

Question is it Left hand threaded? All my other straight shaft trimmers are and if this isn't it's no use to me.

Below is a operators manual (Page 13) showing how to remove the head and in what direction.

Did manage to chop the bevel housing apart with an angle grinder and removed the wanted piece. It is Left hand thread and fits my Honda brushcutters, it is a pleasure to use, so easy to add some line and get to work.
