A few years ago, I acquired a 30" Queen comb [Teasing Rake]. Most outdoor Bowling Club Greenkeepers [sadly, now a dying trade], used them with their Scott Bonnar 30" Electric Queen Mowers, on their greens which were usually Couch.
spp. The comb was positioned in the front of the 16 bladed cylinder, and the idea behind it was to have it set very
slightly lower than the cutting height, so that any visible surface stolons on the green would be lifted and then clipped into the catcher. The end result of the cut followed by the rolling of the green each time, eventually produced a smooth even surface, which was then perfect for the respective Club's members to play on, as there were no surface impediments to alter the track of the bowl.
I am probably suffering from
"imaginitis", but I have been wondering for some time, if it is at all possible to somehow get this attached to my SB Model 45?. I can modify it's length so that it is the exact width of the mower's inside chassis along with the mounting parts at each end, and of course it will be throughly cleaned and repainted, and the height adjusting studs at the top of each end will be removed. [See below pics]
But the big question is, where exactly could it go? Would removing the Front Roller Adj. Bracket Assembly work by somehow incorporating the modified comb and it's fittings at both ends to replace it, work?
Since I have had this mower, I have never once used the Hand Nut, for adjusting the HOC.
The height of cut of my mower is permanently set, and the comb would be too, and also fixed to the chassis so that it can't move up or down.
Now your probably thinking, why on earth would you want to do this? The answer to that is simple, Three reasons: Firstly, the comb will remove the surface stolons that are presently in my couch lawns. Secondly, it will help protect my cylinder and bottom blade from hitting any foreign objects, and Thirdly, I am always striving for a better lawn...
Any comments/suggestions/solutions from anyone, would be very much appreciated.
