I have a red and black wire coming from the stator, black is to negative. Does anybody know how to connect a rec/reg to this stator All the units I see on ebay have yellow and red wires?

Hi Norm,

I would know by looking at it but sounds like a Duel cicuit.Just download the PDF below to see wiring diagram.

The stator with a diode that rectifies the voltage, converting AC to the output being DC suitable for charging the battery. The diode goes on the red wire. A single wire with a diode is generally a DC only system. The
diode rectifies AC to DC for battery charging. This system is unregulated in that the energy delivered to the battery is
totally dependent on engine speed.(these are single red wire to diode) (single circuit)

A red wire with a diode and black wire without a diode is a Dual Circuit system that offers DC for battery charging and
AC to power lights.© Briggs & Stratton Alternator Specifications MS2288bk 6/11
Test Specifications @ 3600 rpm
AC volts 14 vac
DC amps 3 adc
DC amps through regulator 5 adc

Dual Circuit
Rectified or Regulated

A single wire feeding an electronic component (regulator/
rectifier) is a rectified and regulated system which is less
dependent on engine speed than the DC only system
• Two wires of the same color feeding a regulator/rectifier is a
rectified and regulated system that offers even more energy.

PDF will show you the diagram below.

Cheers
Max.

Thanks Max,
Everytime I have fitted a new motor to rideons I just plug the wires off the new motor just plugging into the existing loom and they always charge fine. I have a Greenfield here with the motor still in it so hopefully I can work out the wiring from that
