At a gathering two weeks ago in a nearby rural town got to chatting with a fellow who asks me what would I be doing otherwise today. Probably mowing or brushcutting on my property, me too he says then sheepishly tells me he's got six old Victas.............. So I mention my 23 mowers and he says he has quite a few others too apart from the Victas, all local roadside finds over a couple of decades.

Long story short is we met up yesterday and he gave me a Victa 18. Not pretty, been sitting under his house many years, lots of rust/corrosion, cracked tyres, but starts and runs well, missing the air filter, couple of hose clips and not much else.

On his phone some photos of his other Victas, including one with a lovely sign - posted below.

What year would my 18 be??

I have no intention of restoring it, will just get it working properly, lubricated moving parts. Nice to have a Toecutter amongst my old wrecks.

That depends on the engine number but it's around 1958 / 1959.

Cheers

G'day maxwestern and MowingManiac,

Does it sound like this? That alone makes me want one.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Yep, that's what it sounds like :-)

I was told to use 25:1 mix. With modern 2 stroke oil is that too much ? Maybe 40:1 would be OK ?

Stick with 25:1. It often ends up 11:1 after evaporation.
You did well sounding like in the video. I need one in my life.
