G'day Troy74 and speedy
I'm glad you posted this one.
In turf-care history, Ryan is a USA institution.

Yours presents as a 1960s or 1970s machine.
I would love to see the engine's Model, Type and Code stamped
into the Briggs' engine cowl.

That will give us a date, as the engine appears original.

I can't help but feel that Scott Bonnar based their Model 46 on the Ryan
design. What do you think? ...

The great thing is that Ryan remains a key player in modern turf-care: -

Your Ryan is an early design (with alloy chassis), but the name and
design principles remain in the current model: -

Hi Jack thanks for your reply , agree very similar set up to the 46 . Will post some pics of the engine numbers for you ,

Would you know where I might be able to get some pics, manual , schematics ect for this machine . Just not sure if everything is there and not 100% sure of belt set up , does tensioner bar for belt push back or forwards ect , does belt run behind adjuster roller or in between

Cheers

Hello Troy
The first point is that this was a professional machine. As such,
little info is likely to survive here. The first point of call would be the Ryan Company.

That's an interesting question...
Note that the tensioner pulley is not grooved - suggestion it
engaged with the outer side of the belt.

That does not explain why there is a welded bar on the
outside - that would prevent belt fly-off on dis-engagement (like the Scott Bonnar).

Your image seems to say that the engagement acted upon
the inside of the belt with the tensioner pulley contacting the
inside of the belt.

Best bet, find an operator and parts manual.
This is surely an early model Ryan.

Please keep us informed.

Cheers

Hi Troy and Mod CJ,

When I first opened this thread up and looked at the photos, the first thing that popped into my head was Model 46. It's amazing how similar they really are. I suspect a bit of plagiarism here from one end or the other as you couldn't get it that close without taking ideas in the first instance.

Back then Australia and the USA were far enough away from each other and litigation wasn't rampant like it is today, thus things were done with no repercussions, or alternatively maybe there was some sort of collaboration that we're simply not aware of.

It's an interesting topic I must admit.

Cheers,
BB.

Cheers guys I did get onto RYAN supplier Australia in which he sent my email to Ryan America, I have now got an operator manual from them , I stumbled across across this machine by chance seen a Heap of mowers in a front yard not far from mine so I called in to have a chat , it cost me a crispy $20 had compression and spark.

Dropped it round to my mates work shed as that’s where I’m doing my 45 17” Reno I work away so I only picked it up the night before I left , my mate rang today and said he was having a play with it and it fired up just throwing a bit of juice down the carby

When I get home I’ll grab a couple of belts and see how it goes

G'day Troy

A very old post i know but i thought its worth a try.
Ive just purchased the exact same Ryan scarifier/power rake, unfortunately minus the belt guard.
I was wondering if you still had yours ?
And possibly if your feeling generous is there any chance i could get a copy of that manual Ryan sent you, assuming you still have it.

Thanks
