G'day everyone
I was told this little mower was under a house for around sixty years. Simplex engine but the rest I don't know!
Any help with identification appreciated. Having some troulble negotiating this site so hope my photos appear.

Cheers
Tassie Dan

G’day Dan

I looked at this and was really hoping someone knew. I’m sorry but it’s well outside my knowledge base. I suspect the folks who do know may be sitting cozily in front of their heater waiting for it to warm up a bit.

It looks to be a 1950’s machine to me. There were smaller firms all over Australia at this point in history making mowers, Atco, Pope, Victa, SupaSwift come to mind, but there were others as well some of which were supplying only locally. Once distribution networks and economies of scale took off in the 1960’s many of the smaller concerns faded away.

I hope someone with some knowledge sees your post.

Cheers

G'day Ironbark

Thank you for your interest. From what I have been told by other knowlegeable people this little moer is an 'Eclipse' from the late 50's.

Eclipse was an American mower from my research. Maybe someone used their bases and fitted the Simplex motors.
All sorts of strange things happened with mowers from that era. Or it may be a one off put together by the owner when the original motor failed.
I would love to find a cowl for it. There are three threaded horizontal holes so I guess that is what they are for.
I will keep searching.

Cheers

G'day again Ironbark

Good news! I have found more info. here on ODK. This appears to be an Aussie mower after all. Made by Crowe Engineering in the late 50's.
Easily confused with the American mowers I found online.

Just search 'Eclipse mower' and you will see more.

Cheers
Dan

That’s good news Dan. I’m very glad you’ve got an identity for the mower. It seems a lot of effort went into designing and making some of these early machines so it’d be a shame for it to fall into anonymity.

Cheers
