Hi folks,
I just built this rustic rat rod utility out of spare bits and it runs fine after I cleaned the points and gapped them. Wouldn't make a peep before that after sitting many months.

Only thing is it keeps leaving this oil stain just under the engine barrel near the head after washing it off and using it.
Upon close examination, the oily film is coming from the base of the barrel and flowing down to collect near the head. Hopefully with more use it will stop.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Could just be some oil/grease melting off the block as its been disturbed. Potentially a loose head bolt or knackered base gasket. I would carefully stick my hand under there straight after a cold start and see if I could feel any wind coming out of either the head or base gasket

How many utes have you got now MF?

There is some black grease among the barrel fins under the cowl, that I missed when washing the engine ready to fit on the base.
This is now my second utility mower I've built from discarded bits I've found. The other is a Powertorque one with carby problems. I also took the slasher blades off it to use on this one as the other is out of action until I fix it.
I have a third even more scale riddled ute base with no handles, height adjust or snorkel. It has a 125 on it.
