Hi all,

Are these worth anything these days??

Further, the catchers appear to be rarer than hens teeth, anyone have one lying around in Bris?

It's worth something to me. I believe the catcher is still available to order but costs about $150. Worth it if the base and motor have plenty of life.
Extremely sturdy and capable mower for the tough stuff.
Catcher could be bigger though.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I love the idea of an alloy base bigger than the standard 18inch with the powertorque on it, pity about the catcher frown

I'll put some work into it and see what the engine is like as the base is still in great condition.

Do the powertorque units have a longer crank for these or are they interchangeable with most of the victa 2 strokes?

Looks like the self-propelled system isn't in there any more though

There was a non SP version of this base. I think it's likely the shaft length is the same as domestic models, just a higher output. A good motor from a domestic model will have ample performance on this base.

So I located a catcher for a victa Sp (possibly from a silver streak) with the intention of making it fit the mustang 20.

I feel a little silly but i can't work out the thumb latch.... It just simy doesn't hold.are there any modifications I would need to make to the catcher, I can't see any obvious fouling

Edit: after playing around further I've managed to get the latch to catch and seems semi stable. Still doesn't seem like the top lip of the catcher is hooked onto the deck very well...

All in all I'm calling it a win.

Oh Lockstock, even though the way the catcher attaches is the same, it won't fit that deck!!
That is quite a rare item you have found and it would be a shame to butcher it just to force it to fit on.
I actually have a SP Victa that takes that and would love it.
Basically that catcher is from the first variant thumb latch high arch alloy chassis introduced 1973, and the one you want is from the second variant introduced 1976.
They are only forward compatible , IE the first chassis variant can take the catchers from the second, bit not vice versa.
Besides, the one you want are much more common as the production run was much longer for the second variant SP chassis than the first.
I have two here. Would gladly swap for your catcher if geography wasn't the enemy.

Thanks MF, Interesting to know as it doesn't seem to fit too poorly.

Are you able to send a picture of the type of catcher I should keep an eye out for?

Had geography been on our side I'd happily see it go to an enthusiast who can put it to use

Here is what you are looking for. Note, some have a vent on the left side, some do not, like this one.
