My latest acquisition courtesy of Gumtree. I have another with this engine and seller said it has a new carburettor. Says it starts for a few seconds before stalling. Tank is cracked at bottom. If nothing else it has some useful parts at $15.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Hey Tyler, yep mate it's the Fairlane gas tank. I have been driving it on petrol after filling it at 84.9¢ a litre while LPG was sitting on 79.9¢. A it consumes gas at 17% greater rate it was cheaper to run on this petrol. I managed to use my fuel saver app to find gas at 69.9¢ not too far from where I collected the mower and filled it up before driving home on petrol and gas. Back to the mower, the wheels have better tread on them than the pictures suggested and I've yet to take a look at the bowl bolt. The engine cover looks nice on this so I am hoping I can get myself at least one functioning Tecumseh powered Victa out of this buy. Who knows, I may have a pigeon pair in my hands! Do I have to find compatible scrap plastic to perform a weld or can I just fuse the existing plastic of the tank with a soldering iron tip?
EDIT just went for a sojourn into the cold and can confirm it does. A fiddle with that could make the difference?

I usually disconnect the tank and fill the tank with water - helps prevent a boom haha
Think its 1.5 turns from lightly seated on the jet
Bet your missing the days of 40c/L lpg
I almost had my fingers and possibly wrist broken by severe kickback on one of these - was on an edger with a loose belt though. Was leaned over the handle bar and wrenched my back when it kicked
Yeah well the weight of the blade carrier should see that I don't get dragged to the pavement.
Try sub 30¢ per litre in the 1990s. I thought it was too much if it strayed much beyond 30.9¢ and once saw it at 19.9!! Unfortunately I had already filled up elsewhere. It made for very cheap commuting in the "thirsty" Valiant. 25 mins vs an hour on PT (even though it was free as a transport employee on the buses. With 12 hr broken shifts it was the car nearly every time.
