Bruce, The piston cylinder and rings arrived today but the cylinder is different to mine . If the seller dosen't have another one I might see if you can get one, I guess a Olympic 284 & Olympk 284 F are different?. That's news to me. gmax

Bruce,
Thanks, I'm getting the correct cylinder from the US, I will be using the piston that came with the wrong cylinder. So after all this mucking around it had better run.. LOL.
Bruce I will need a cylinder gasket, could you let me know if you can supply one, thanks
cheers gmax

The Olympk is all finished, I used a new cylinder with a good used
piston, It runs like new again, 81cc it will be a fun firewood saw to use.

Hi Gmax,
Looking at the forum for your repairs to your Oleo-Mac 284 or 284F.
Not sure which one you had.
We have a Oleo-Mac 284F which has broken rings.
The cylinder/barrel and piston if fine, all we need is the rings.
Do you have any idea where we could buy the rings.
Maybe Bruce would know and if so how do I get in contact with him.
Thanks
Rosemary48 :)

Rosemary, that thread hasn't had a post in more than 3 years, and it has been a couple of years since gmax visited this site. If you are going to contact him, your best chance would be at aboristsite.com, but I'm not sure he's been there in years either.
Bruce is the Outdoorking site owner, as well as being a dealer in outdoor equipment. You can contact him by sending him a Private Message. At the top of this page you'll find a button marked My Stuff. If you press it, you'll see a drop-down list, beginning with Messages. Press that button. Then click the New Private Message button. Type Bruce in the Add Recipient window. Right below that, type your message title in the Subject window, and the details of what you want in the Message window right below that. Press Submit when you have completed your question.
If not even Bruce can find you the piston rings, there is still the possibility of doing it the hard way. Because your piston is still good, all you need is a set of 2 stroke piston rings that are the right diameter (to fit the cylinder bore), the right depth (so they don't hit the bottom of the piston's ring grooves) and the right width (so they are a close fit across the width of the piston's ring grooves). You will need to do some exact measuring on the old piston rings you have, then post the dimensions here, as well as trying a chainsaw dealer or two.
