Well i have to say good bye to the trusty old storage shed. here's a pic
at least i have something to keep my isolation occupied.
building new shelves for the new but much smaller shed..
i would be curious to see how others deal with this problem

Hello Gizmo,
shelving along the perimeter would be a good idea in my shed which is 3m x 3m. Are those rods I see helping to support them from above?
How did you construct them and what did you use?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Mines 3x3 as well MF

I would post a pic, but I am embarrassed as it an absolute mess at the moment

I made a 3 shelf one out of treated pine - took me a whole day and drove me nuts as I infinitely prefer metalwork. Still, it cost me nothing as I got the pine for free (builders next door stuffed up roof pitch on 2 units and had to rip it all down and throw it away) and a shoebox full of roofing screws from the tip for $10.

It holds the trimmers hung over the top with engines down. Kicking myself I didn't put the top shelf 30-50mm higher as the Stihl and Bolens straight shafts are too long and hit the ground

I couldn't see myself making another 2, so I splashed out and got 2 of these https://www.stratco.com.au/au/storage/garage-shed/heavy-duty-rack/

Got them on a bit special, but I don't think I got out of it for under 600. Most shelves are 500mm deep, so too stubby to fit a victa on. They just fit on 600 (but I put a piece of iron behind a wheel just in case).

Shelves paid for themselves instantly - no stress or strain or backache putting these up. Bloody solid too.

3 mowers on each shelf, and the blowers, ryobi expand it attachments and hedgers fit on the top shelf right up at the roof.

It's under a tree, so only gets the warm sun in the morning and shade through the heat. Otherwise, I wouldn't be comfortable putting the things up on the top shelf

The only thing I didn't think of is the wire shelving material latches the wheels in - and it doesn't conform to Victa track width front or rear - so I cut up the box the shelf came in and used it as a shelf liner.

I have since picked up several sheets of good Big MDF on bunnings clearance (rough corners) for $8 a sheet (and incidentally a new Ryobi circular saw to cut it with on clearance for $30), so will be cutting that soon.

Only prob is I put it on the top shelf to store it dry until I cut it - forgot the other day and almost knocked myself out on it

hello Mowerfreak.

heres a pic of how i made these using what i had.
shelf is 600mm wide 18mm melamine chipboard.
actually the front mower wheels overhang the shelf but that stops em rolling
supported by 100 x 18 pine boards on edge and yes suspended from roof.
back support screwed to studs.
the 100 x 18 was not strong enough and wouldve sagged without hanger support.
i am doing similar to new shed. would much prefer steel but its costly.
will post a pic when completed

Thanks Gizmo for giving me ideas. If nothing else, I learned what a useful idea it is having multi level shelving as a space saving solution.

Where do you keep the catchers? You can stuff them with spare parts.

making progress in new shed with one sides shelving completed. now holding half of my collection.
working on second lot of shelves today. not as pretty as i wanted to make them but i am running out of time and need the storage space.

Did you paint them grey or did the pieces come that way.
It looks much neater than the natural colour.

I don't know how you do it. I hope the shelves are up for it.
How did you hook the weed chopper on?

Hi Ted12, Gizmo and Tyler
I have been thinking of fitting one of those rotating roof vents to get rid of heat and humidity. Any you can recommend and how hard is it to install?

Sorry never installed one. It would need to be installed well though so no leaks when it rains. That said i wouldnt think it would be that hard.

Hey Gismo,
Lifting mowers even off the ground gives me a sore back for a week....
You need some sort of lifter , ramps would be clumbsy..
Nice and tidy...good work
speedy

I'd be worried about one falling on my head thdh. They look sturdy though.

Yes great setup Gizmo, some sort of fork stacker would be handy, if only we had robotic mower parking.

I think i may need a few mower silos.

Cheers
Max.
