Thanks TC

I will msg you if I know I'm heading down your way.

Clover around here is shocking, not sure if it's the type of soil in the area but just before everyone got their mowers out for this season every front yard in the neighbourhood looked white. I think weeds are spreading more and more with the housing development boom and the main problem are all these lawnmowing companies out there spreading one person's crap into another's. I know for a fact when I was in the business we would do some nice lawns and then after time there was more weeds than lawn, even though we cleaned machines it doesn't take much for a seed or something to be on your shoes clothing or wedged in the machines that it eventually transfers somewhere else. This is the reason I won't cut my front yard with the same machine I do the back with.

Cheers

Hi TC,

I've gotta ask a question regarding your groomer, who did you get your blades from ? and what mods did you make to your 45 to fit it altogether ?

Cheers,
BB.

Hi BB

I just use the push mower out the front at the moment, if I can eventually get the weeds out of it then the Scotty will definately explore the front yard if I can get the lawn lush.
To be honest I got alot of things that need to be finished around the house so no plans on another Scotty, the wife already has plans changing some of the rooms in the house around, which she has already started.

To be honest I did pick up a model 40 this year that I bought cause it was $30.00 (no brainer the catcher is worth more than that) I was thinking maybe I could get it up and running with out restoring it and get some weed stripes happening. It's all origional with the Villiers engine but I don't know if I can swap the engine with an older Briggs I got laying around. I'm pretty sure the old Villiers will run with a service, now that you brought it up what's your thoughts on the model 40? Worth the trouble or flog it off and get another 45. Don't know what their worth and if the difference in in what I get to what I can buy is worth it considering I paid nothing for it. There are 2 origional model 40's for sale in NSW for $800.00 & $1,000, they won't sell for that but I'm pretty sure you could get a 45 for $300.00 - $400.00 if your glued online and are quick and prepared to travel.

Cheers

Hi B_S,

Yep some folks are seriously deluded and you just have to keep a keen eye out on the Gumtree listings where you'll see Model 40's and others sitting there with crickets chirping around them.

What I'm finding really funny is that strangely some of these oddball machines get snapped up by Greenhorns who realise afterwards that they've done their doh ! and then hoping to fall across another Greenhorn to move their mistake along to.

This is what happens to the uneducated I guess.

Cheers,
BB.

PS. I'm not trying to Hi-Jack this thread so it's back to weeds we go.

Thanks BB, if I decide to do something with it I will start a new thread but that won't be any time soon.

As for the weeds, maybe I haven't searched properly on the site but is there maybe a thread or a file where we can list and identify different weeds for references as I'm sure this would be popular.

I know from personal experiences I have had a bit of trouble trying to identify certain weeds as some look very similar and when searching online by a description you end up with so many things that are nothing like what your looking for. I got some gardening books but they just have either black and white photos or drawings of the weed and alot of websites show a green patch with the weed amongst it and not really highlighting the actual weed.

Just a thought

Morning B.B.,

This link is to the forum entry I added for the unit

The Count Groomer

But to summarise, I bought the reel complete from Lincoln in WA. I didn’t want to risk a DIY option and was prepared to pay someone else’s profits to get that part right.. the unit didn’t actually cost me cash as I had enough points on my reward card to cover it so the only cash cost for me was the twin deck 45..

The blades are tungsten tipped and the unit was ready to install with bearings etc and cost $600 delivered. A similar unit from VIC was around $800 at the time. I’ll get the diameter of the blades for you later today.

The boys at work moved the sole plate back 18mm to allow clearance for the blades. The deflector has little feet to grab onto the sole plate for stability and may hit the roller if you do this mod. Grinding the last little flat part of the attaching clip was done to leave the curved portion and about 1mm of flat. I should have bent the flat part ‘down’ though - almost contour it to the sole plate to give a snug fit. I didn’t tighten the lugs where the deflector arms connect to the rails and it moved and the tungsten tips made a mess of the deflector! The boys fixed it but be careful.

If you want to look for blades, you could always try www.aliexpress.com.au which is the Chinese competitor to eBay. I’ve bought a number of items and never had an issue.

The minor Reno I’m doing this weekend will be to remove half the blades and do a verticut as opposed to s deep dethatch. I recall last year it was pretty aggressive and as I’m later this year I’ll take it easy on the grass...

I look forward to your build story!

Cheers,
TC

Hi TC,

I thought there was a thread that you created about this machine. Just couldn't find it at the time.

I want to space my blades out to around 20mm or so as I only want to use it as a Verti-Cutter to keep the grass thin and not as a re-surfacer as it becomes when the blades are so close together.

I might get in contact with Lincoln and see what he's got on hand as much of the other stuff that's come about originates from a particular person within the scene and I'm not going to sit here and promote him.

Cheers,
BB.
