Hello
ODK history lovers
News Cuttings was Victa’s official news publication to its dealer network.
Introduced in the late 1950s, it would be no more than a few pages in length.
This
Mid- 1964 issue is of interest because it covers landmarks in Victa’s
history. The annoying thing is that part of that story is currently … missing!
The lead article discusses a film, “Achievement in Australian Industry.”
The hour-long film was part of a series produced by the “Australia 175”
committee to showcase, “
the commercial and industrial growth of Australia
in recent years.” I wonder if copies survive?

Most of this edition is comprised of two things: Victa’s brilliant
Service and their
myth building. Victa, itself, largely created the image of the mighty,
unstoppable Victa mower.
For service, Victa was second to no other AUS mower maker,
with service schools in all Australian states. Page 3 is all about Victa’s
Service Network. Victa looked after its customers.
Victa marketing was all about creating
myths and legends.
Articles abound in this
News Cuttings about the mighty Victa …
“This Town Steward Pushes the Mower,” “He Mowed a Racecourse,”, and
“Lots of Grass but Sid Takes It in His Stride”. Victa was a part of the communities it served.
The last page follows the formula, with a great Servicing Guide (No. 22),
“Jumping Spark Can Over-oil Plug in Two-stroke Engines”.
Even the Victawise cartoon was sort of clever …
