Oh great, thanks. I wasn't sure if the cork was too greasey, but I will definitely try to clean it up first.
On the thrust bearing, will definitely clean it up and re grease. It's very good to know that they are meant to be noisy.
I would love a hand when it comes time to reassemble. You'd be more than welcome to come round and offer a hand at some point, perhaps once I have painted all that needs painting in a few weeks time.
