The groomer will probably pick up various foreign objects and flick them out of the way too, which will protect the mower reel from damage. My neighbour's kids like to throw lots of things over the fence when they are in their pool - it doesn't worry me because I use rotary mowers, but it would be a major concern if I had a reel mower.
