OK this d*m mower is starting to become a major pain in the poop chute.OK about the engine that is all good now.I had a look around in the mower room last night as I couldn't remember if I kept it.Then eureka I found it and yes I did keep it.Here is how I received it.

I had forgotten that I kept the engine.I knew I threw the base out as it was toast as well.Although if you start comparing bases this one pictured here is in much better shape. Then the really big problem came up and smacked me in the face, now this one I can't just dig around and find it.As I know I don't have one.The base I was going to use as the replacement base,a model 6 Sheerline,a model 9 Sheerline or (and most likely not to use)a model 7A four stroke. All in very usable and fixable condition.Only problem is they are all completely different bases from the Consul 2.Bugger bum poop. You see the Consul 2 unlike the others that use similar bases, has the carby on the opposite site.So therefore there has to be a dip in the base to allow this. You don't understand what I'm saying here I'll show you then.

So you can clearly see that where are two dips to allow for the carby to either side of the engine.I know I know I could put the carby on the other side, but that then is one very important feature of the Consul 2 gone.

This is the model 9 Sheerline base.Similar but with one dip.

The two together clearly showing the different's between the two.

This is the model 7A four stroke.
Now it would seem that these bases are totally unique to the Consul 2 range as the slightly newer Consul 2 Model 521 I have here, has this same base as well.Again to accommodate the carby on the opposite side.So now I need a Consul 2 base to keep this dream of restoring alive.Yeah right I know as much as the next guy even the 521 is a little more common but even that doesn't show up very often either. Oh well let the search being I guess. There really isn't a way of saving its original base.Would cost way to much if it could anyway.
