Hi Grant, mate you are a legend!! I've wanted to see what was inside one of these for ages....Now all we need is a circuit diagram to see how it works and the component values and voltages!
At least we now know that the brass strap on the front of the Magister (missing in your pic) may be some type of switch?...it seems to go to earth...maybe some early type of kill switch.
