On anything else, you do it best you can with fingers and thumbs. Wind it up till it binds, back it off, poke the pull cord in, tie a knot in it one handed, then let it slowly pull the cord in. If the cord is not super long tie a loop knot or something in the other end of it so it does not dissapear.
