I also believe in "the right tool for the job", but at the price now being sought for these special tools, for the home handyman that likes to tinker (as we all like to do here)
being able to make the sockets yourself is a viable alternative.
As Bruce has said, the case hardening would have disappeared due to heat in the grinding process, but, with care, and no rattle gun...should do the job adequately taking into account the number of times the tools would be used.
