Hi all, my name's David and I've just signed up.
I've bought spare parts from Outdoor King in the past but the reason i've joined the forum is that I've just bought a Scott Bonnar Model 45 and want to give it a full restoration to it's former glory.
This model has sentimental value for me: My father was a lawn maniac and had one of these in the 80's. When he passed away none of us kids were really into the lawn and let it get into a state that the Scotty just couldn't handle and we ended up giving it to a friend and buying a conventional disc mower.
Now, as I get older(35), I find myself becoming more like my Dad and the lawns becoming more of a priority. I recently dropped $1K on a Honda HRU196M to replace my fiancee's rubbish chinese made Rover. While it's an amazing machine that I fully expect to last 20+ years it just doesn't give that reel mower cut that I now want.
I work in IT and am only an amateur home mechanic so will probably ask some stupid questions at times so please forgive me my lack of knowledge.
The machine that I bought is a Model 45048 17" and appears very similar to my father's one but it is painted in a paler green and has a black Briggs & Stratton motor instead of his orange one with a different air filter arrangement. Everything elase seems the same as I remember. Does anyone know anything more about this particular model?
Looking forward to doing this resto, about to go remove the reel and soleplate to get reground, and to learning and sharing my experiences with fellow Scott Bonnar afficionados.

Cheers,
David.
