Greg, ive got a Rancer here with a twin spindle alloy deck. Its pretty busted up. Any interest in using the hardware off this deck to remake a deck in steel for your Rancher??

Ive got 2 old F26 Deutchers here. Horizontal shaft motors to a vertical deck, belt turns 90deg.
Your tow behind could be powered by a new chinese 5.5HP electric start horizontal shaft Chonda.
Take the starter pannel off the engine, use a 5 core, feed the wires in through some polly pipe as conduit, extend it up to beside the seat. Plugs into an Anderson plug or similar at the mower to power it up.
Considering a half decent 5HP mower fetches over $200, Paying $200 for a brand new e-start motor makes good sense.
Back too the Deutcher. The deck on those is pretty simple but effective. Something similar for what you are making could be an idea too.
