That wasn't what I was describing: you had spoken of screwing a barb into the cover, then expoxying it as a reinforcement. That is what I said might be stronger than the original, if the epoxy bonded to both parts. Just gluing something to a surface with epoxy is not very strong at all. It is up to you of course - worst case, it falls off.
