There is the el cheapo vertical driven home owner version which are not worth repairing as most of the pumps are too expensive repair wise to repair. Then there is the home owner horizontal drive pumps which half way repairable. And of course there are the commercial horizontal pumps that are worth repairing.
As for water and pressure hose hook up it is usually obvious but that might be just an US where most pump uses household garden hose connection for the water in side and either a M22 screw on connector or 3/8 quick disconnects.
When comes to repair you got to consider over all cost to repair vs replacement.
