Hi all,
I've had a fair few of these seventies Sunbeam Mowers over the years and thought I would throw them all out as the bases are
badly designed in my opinion and thought I would explain the problem with the bases.
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/76657/sunbeam-lawnkeeper-2-4-c1967.htmlJack has uploaded a Choice Magazine article here that confirms the base will crack with an unbalanced crank (ie one blade breaks off)
https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u...e-two-stroke-rotary-lawnmowers-1971.htmlThe early models are even worse and Sunbeam must have known of the cracking base problems because the later bases
have a gusset cast in under the base to try and strengthen the base but still with the reinforced base it will crack ,the problem
that I can see as a design fault is the height linkage rod from the front axle to rear axle,as it runs through the bases side skirt, the
linkage runs through the slotted skirt ,this slot will weaken the base because now the skirt is unsupported.
A few pics of the Sunbeam below showing the problems .
Cheers
Max.
