Hello ODK history lovers
It is amazing that a mower that floated on air was
sold in Australia from 1968.

At this time the Swedish Group owner – Electrolux – sold
Flymos through a purposely formed Australian company,
Flymo (Aust) Pty. Ltd.

That venture was short-lived, because Electrolux acquired
Scott Bonnar in 1970 and a new company – Flymo Scott-Bonnar –
sold Flymos alongside Scott Bonnars.

But that association ended in 1973, when Electrolux
sold Scott Bonnar to New Zealand’s Challenge Corporation.
Where did this leave Flymo …?

Answer: Electrolux formed a new company – Flymo (Sales) Pty Ltd –
with offices at South Yarra, Melbourne, to market Flymo products in Oz.

This topic covers a brochure from the early post Scott Bonnar days.
I date this brochure to about 1974.

What is clear is that for the first two seasons Flymos were
exclusively petrol-powered mowers.

That is understandable … given the radical change in the
concept of a lawnmower. I speculate that the plan was to sell
the concept – a mower that floats on air – using a traditional
powerplant. Once established, promote the electric versions too.

The first newsprint advertising for the electric Flymos
appear in late 1970 - two seasons after the initial release.

Below is a select gallery of 1968-69 newsprint adverts.
Noteworthy is the pre-release article from July, 1968.
Also note the ‘Flymo Wings’ offered to children in the 8 December ad.

In the nest part I will cover the Flymo range for 1974.
