I don't like the bitumen paint because if water gets in behind it it can just sit there and continue rusting. My favourite is give it a good clean and then paint it with fish oil. If you really felt the need, fish oil it, let it fully dry, some weeks at this time of the year, then give it a coat of bitumen paint
