Hi Bruban,

Well I ventured down to Richmond to see if we could get to the bottom of the crunching noise on this 45 and ended up having a fantastic day out at Bruan's residence.

A fantastic spacious 1960's style rear lawn surrounded by wide paths that's perfect material to use both a Model 45 on, along with a Model 38 Edger.

This is what I love about the ODK Forums opposed to the Facebook pages that are full of self centred abusing know it alls. This place encourages friendships.

ODK now attracts a better class of folk and this is so evident with many of the great people that are here and are really happy to give and give well and and not just take like it appears to be the case on many of the Social Media sites.

Bruban, please keep on doing what you are doing as you make the world a much nicer place to live in.

Cheers,
BB.

PS. For all others reading this short thread the noise encountered was rather normal on a 45 but was slightly enhanced due to a slight amount of play within the woodruff key area of the Primary Clutch and PTO transfer Shaft. Over time the recess in the shaft widens while the key itself wears down one side. Replacement of the shaft with a new key should quieten it down a bit more. Also we loosened the chains as they were all a tad on the tight side which is counter productive to the well-being of the mechanicals. It was also noted that this mower really should have a new clutch body fitted as it wasn't running as true as it should be. After this work is performed it should give many years of trouble free mowing.

I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
