You have not asked a silly question here.
Scott Bonnar was never consistent from model to model in paint terms.
My best guess is that the Model 33 did not have painted sprockets.
Why not treat your sprockets with the same protection you give to the chains.
I recommend a lanolin lubricant and rust inhibitor.
Here, I will caution against over-lubrication ... because you
have a belt in the transmission case.
Lanotec's Lanolin does a great job here ...
