Here's an old Rover ES which came in for repairs and a service. The starter cord had broken.

It's a one owner mower looked after very carefully and always been garaged.

None of my other old Rovers are in such good shape and none have the original decals or manufacturers plate.

I did a search on Rover ES and didn't find any photos of this exact model so thought may as well put one up here for future reference.

Any ideas of its age?

Yes looks like it's been looked after MM , there should be a few on the forum even the Green Wayfarer but as the
image searches aren't working yet they are a little difficult to locate ,I guess only the images that you don't have to log in
to view will be indexed on Google.

A few brochures here https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.a...chure-c1986.html#Post95228&gsc.tab=0

I think I've had over 100 Rover mowers and threw out about 30 of this model as I couldn't sell them even if they looked new
as people weren't interested in the older mowers. I also had a few with the Suzuki 2 stroke motor, still have a few badges.

I'm assuming these mower bases were a variant of a Super Swift base as they are virtually identical and the catchers swap
across.

Looks like it's from the eighties but the date of Manufacture is stamped on the cowl as a Code number just
look at the first two digits to get the year, the number stampings are on the front or the side of the cowl.

Thanks Max, Code # is on the side of the cowl, 90081304. I'm thinking Rover didn't go making changes to their mowers too frequently.
Yes MM these model Rover mowers were around for a fair few years ,your one being 1990 , I preferred the ones
with ball bearing wheels like the one in this 1989 ad.They are a good base I prefer these over a Masport Alloy base.

I'm surprised the 2024 SupaSwift is still using a Rover steel base that goes back to around the nineties.

Cheers
Max.
