Telstra in it's privatised state, has decided to stop it's community service of the well known talking clock at the third stroke at midnight October 1st 2019. Telstra claim it's not compatible with upcoming technology even though the contractor says there are ways to make it work and the new system is three years away. I think we can guess the real motive. https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.sm...al-up-talking-clock-20190418-p51ff8.html
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi all,
I guess with everything now being run on Internet time (phones, PC's and everything "SMART") there's really no need for it anymore ?
Cheers, BB.
PS. Everything eventually becomes obsolete.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.

Hasn't been needed for years now as everybody has a mobile phone so they don't need to ring the talking clock just look at their phone.

I read that mobile phones can be out by several seconds due to delays in various steps required for the data to reach your phone.
There is still a significant amount of the population without a mobile phone, much less a smart phone in their pocket who still use the service. It received plenty of calls in the last year and even people with a smart phone in certain lines of work still use it, for instance people up on ladders setting clocks who need to listen for the exact time and can't look at their mobile phone or watch. I checked my mobile against it today and it was actually ahead by one second. It's just an excuse by the money grubbers at "Telstra" to save $$.

MF, nothing in my life is important enough to be down to one second but I get your point. And don't get me started on that Telstra mob, what a mongrel company they are. I haven't been stung by them but I know plenty who have
