The threads I used it on were for an old diesel bus I was helping someone with. It was for these small studs that held on chrome hubcaps to the rear wheel hubs that were caked in old paint. You could see fine paint chips and a few fine metal fillings sprinkle down into the wheel well I ran them, and the retaining nuts then went on smooth as butter with your fingers. So satisfying.

My guess is that the cylinder would be hard chrome plated, which the melted alloy can be cleaned off the hard chrome if the piston nips the cylinder. But this one looks like it has more stripes than a Zebra. Scrap metal. Barrel and piston might be economical option, but this piston looks like it has seized and kept going after it cooled down or something along those lines. There maybe a lot of alloy dust floating around the main bearing and seals, big ends and little end of the conrod could be contaminated too.

I looked at a picture of the felt filter in the manual, Aldo, and I can't believe it is meant to have oil on it. Now that you have it clean and dry, if you replace the spark plug as well, by the time it runs long enough and hard enough to burn the carbon out of the muffler, it should be as clean-running as a new one.

Thanks for reporting the outcome - I'll close this thread. If anyone needs to post to it, just PM a moderator.

If you've got it consistently starting second pull and then running perfectly for as long as you use it, it sounds as if things are in good shape and it's just another case of a complicated fuel system on a small all-position engine. I'll leave this thread open for now, in case you have more to report later.

Tuning the walbro carb - help needed

Hi,

The manual calls the screw which pushes on the throttle wire 'slow speed adjusting screw', and the brass ring bit 'slow speed fuel adjusting screw' - the screw for the revs obviously and the brass ring connects to the choke for extra fuel by flicking over the red bit.

The manual shows the high speed adjustment screw lower down on the casing but it doesn't exist. Do I have a fixed jet carb unit, but they haven't bothered updating the manual? The mitshubishi manual has obviously nothing to do with Alpina themselves. And it's ironic that under Support on their website, the link to Call Center doesn't even work (http://212.103.198.99/alpina/support.jsp)

And if it is a fixed jet carb, what kind of adjustments can I do to it.

Cheers
Petrol11
