Pope / Rover 82-203

G'day Freddy and Norm,

The 4 stroke muffler will be no good, the original 2 stroke muffler has a large expansion chamber compared with that Briggs 4
stroke exhaust.

Adapting the Briggs & Stratton muffler to your 2-stroke Pope mower will not work effectively and will likely cause a significant loss of power. The design of a 4-stroke muffler is fundamentally different from that of a 2-stroke muffler, especially one with an expansion chamber.

Why It Won't Work

The main reason for the incompatibility is the expansion chamber, which is a crucial component of a 2-stroke engine's exhaust system. Unlike a 4-stroke engine, which uses valves to control the flow of exhaust and intake gases, a 2-stroke engine relies on a carefully tuned exhaust system to create a pressure wave. This wave travels back up the pipe and helps "push" unburnt fuel mixture back into the cylinder before the exhaust port closes. The expansion chamber is specifically designed to generate this pressure wave.

A Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke muffler is a simple baffle muffler that's designed to reduce noise by slowing down and cooling exhaust gases. It does not generate the necessary pressure waves for a 2-stroke engine to operate correctly.

If you were to install the 4-stroke muffler on your 2-stroke Pope mower, you would likely experience:

Significant Power Loss: The engine will not be able to generate the correct pressure waves, leading to a loss of the scavenging effect and a poor combustion cycle.

Poor Engine Performance: The engine may run poorly, stall, or be difficult to start.

Increased Risk of Damage: The engine may run too hot, which can lead to premature wear or even catastrophic failure.

You may be able to adapt another 2 stroke muffler to fit even a Victa 2 stroke muffler would be better.I'd say the victa cylinder outlet
will be smaller that the Pope but you may be able to open the fitting on the muffler a little to fit the Pope.

Cheers
Max.

New ROVER Reel Mowers

Finished up selling my rebuilt NEW Scott Bonnar for $3750, paid $3000 and spent about $400 so I made a profit of about $350 but money wasn't reason for selling.

I wanted to go to the cartridge system so I purchased a RoVer Kensington 17L, had to drive 800Km round trip from Adelaide to Mildura to collect. (diesel $150)

The RoVer came with standard 6 blade cartridge but the selling point was it included 10 blade and de-thatcher cartridges, to buy these 2 is around $1800 new so I thought the $1150 was a bargain for a near new RoVer 17L that had been carefully used and looked after.

I purchased a allett scarifyer cartridge for A$532 so I should be set now.

I actually prefer the RoVer 17L to my previous new Scott Bonnar 45 17" as it's a slightly lighter machine and doesn't seem to dig in on one side if ground is a little uneven.

Anyway, I rang ADE in Melbourne who are the Allett Aust agent and was advised that the RoVer Kensington 17L (Loncin) is a re-badged Allett Kensington 17H (Honda) and parts are readily available which is a huge bonus for a machine that hasn't been sold for maybe 5-6 years now.

A person would hit the ground from the same height in 4 to 6 seconds the Hindenburg hit the ground in around
30 seconds Norm.

The time that it took from the first signs of disaster to the bow crashing to the ground is reported as 32, 34 or 37 seconds. Since none of the newsreel cameras were filming the airship when the fire first started, the time of the start can only be estimated from various eyewitness accounts and the duration of the longest footage of the crash. One analysis by NASA's Addison Bain gives the flame front spread rate across the fabric skin as about 49 ft/s (15 m/s) at some points during the crash, which would have resulted in a total destruction time of about 16 seconds.

The flames quickly spread forward first consuming cells 1 to 9, and the rear end of the structure imploded. Almost instantly, two tanks (it is disputed whether they contained water or fuel) burst out of the hull as a result of the shock of the blast. Buoyancy was lost on the stern of the ship, and the bow lurched upwards while the ship's back broke; the falling stern stayed in trim

BARTRAM Model 60 Rotary mower

I recently acquired an alloy base rotary mower with a brass manufacturer’s name plate stamped J BARTRAM and Son Pty Ltd. The mower has a Villiers motor and vulcanised rubber alloy wheels. In researching the mower I came across Cyberjack’s post of 3\2016 on the BARTRAM Finecut reel mower and an oblique reference to a BARTRAM Model 60 Rotary mower with a Villiers Mark 2G/3G motor. I am wondering if this might be one of these elusive mowers.
